July 15

12 p.m. - Mike Cowie

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mike Cowie began his professional music career at sixteen. After freelancing away for 10 years, Mike returned home in the late 80’s where he has been a major presence on the Eastern Canadian music scene as a musician and producer.

1 p.m. - Keith Hallett

Keith Hallett is the grittiest real deal from Eastern Canada. Keith has played with and supported renowned artists like Buddy Guy and has performed at acclaimed festivals like the Montreal Jazz Festival. Keith has developed his own unique style of spooky pre-war blues.

2 p.m. - Malody

Malody is a trans singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer who brings a confidence that only years of preparation can provide. Performing tracks from their upcoming album “Searching”, listeners can expect to be deeply moved by Malody’s introspective journey brought to life through music.

3 p.m. - Gabe Mink Three-Bop

“Three Bop” is a new project lead by Halifax-based jazz guitarist Gabe Mink. The group explores music from the bebop and hard-bop tradition through new arrangements and compositions. Trombonist/arranger Nathaniel Jenkins and bassist Kyle Tully complete the trio.


July 16

12 p.m. - Jazz Crush! The Karlene Marie Trio

Vocalist, Karlene Marie loved jazz since childhood. A pivotal gift at 13 was Ella Sings Cole Porter. She appreciates the chance to share with jazz lovers her “jazz crush” supported by the brilliant artists, Geordie Haley (guitar) and Kyle Tully (bass).

1 p.m. - Miss Aurora Scott

Miss Aurora Scott dazzles crowds with her sultry vocals, natural elegance, and sophisticated sense of style. This multi-talented singer, dancer, actress, and world class entertainer is thrilled to return to the Halifax Jazz Festival with Peter Davison on guitar.

2 p.m. - Caito MacDonald Trio

Caito MacDonald is a percussionist and composer from Dartmouth, NS. His approach to percussion is centered in melodicism, using traditional rudiments to emulate horn lines. His trio includes Halifax musicians Gabe Mink on Guitar and Peter Bull on Bass.

3 p.m. - Megan Gilhespy

Jazz vocalist Meghan Gilhespy is an innovative voice from the Vancouver jazz scene. Based in Halifax, Meghan teaches at StFX and NSCC. As the first woman in Canada to pursue a DMA in Jazz, her research examines the cultural politics of experimental jazz vocalization.
