As part of the Halifax Jazz Festival free daytime programming.
The Tritones are a lively Halifax based jazz & blues trio that have been pleasing audiences for over 2 decades with their lush, full sounds. Performing song writing gems from the 30’s and 40’s, their 3 distinctive voices blend to create smooth, rich harmonies with the perfect backing from their fine talents on keyboards, saxophone and drums. Truly versatile, The Tritones perform swing, jump blues, hard bop, R&B and jazz, creating a warm, pleasurable experience whenever they perform.
All respected, well-established musicians in their own right, J.P. Ellis, Krisanne Crowell and Dave Skinner have performed in many other musical units throughout their careers. J.P. has long been known as the go to piano player for solo jazz, blues and rock & roll with a tasty collection of tunes in his songbook. He joined forces with Krisanne in ECMA winners and popular 8-piece jump blues band, The Floorboards, in the 90’s, which led them to the formation of The Tritones. Krisanne has brought her sax and arranging talents to a variety of other bands including ECMA nominee, The Mike Oliver Band, The Jazz Hoods, The Dave James Orchestra, The Ladies in Blue and has led her own ECMA nominated jazz band, Krisanne Crowell with Solarocity. Dave Skinner has performed with Juckatar, Mason Chapman Band, toured with Charlie A’Court and presently keeps busy with Ced, Marty and Dave and Kitty and Her Cats.
Together they bring their shared joy and enthusiasm for the music they present directly to the listener, who can scarcely resist breaking a smile and tapping a toe to their sounds. Regularly featured at the Atlantic Jazz Festival Tent and Hydrostone Market stage, they have recently been inspiring the youthful Dalhousie Swing Dancers to “cut –a-rug” on the dance floor with their joyful performances. The exuberant swing of The Tritones leaves the crowd standing on their feet calling for more.
