The Prohibition Jazz Band is a nod to the songs of Canada’s alcohol prohibition era. Although these songs are historical ones, spanning the ragtime, dancehall and swing days of 1901 to 1948, there’s no replication going on here, the four-piece, Halifax-based band is kind of like the country cousin to traditional jazz. Just imagine a woozy combination of western swing, with a pre-bop string band rhythm section, it’s pure fun.
