Lazeez is a new band from Halifax, Nova Scotia that isn’t afraid of bending any limits to create a sound that comes from integrating each member’s skills and strengths. Although they have a base in funk and R&B, they transcend the limits of these genres to create a highly original musical mix. Each member contributes what they can to ideas that are brought to the table. They draw from influences like Funk, Soul, Jazz, Latin and World music, mixing sounds together with transitions that will leave you feeling refreshed and engaged.

  Behrooz Mihankhah, a piano player, composer and singer/songwriter, born in Tehran, Iran. He moved to India in the year of 2007 and started performing professionally in India in late 2011. He started his musical journey by singing covers of the bands/artists that inspired him and gradually started composing his own music. In the year 2013 he went to S.A.M Music Academy in South India where he majored in Piano. He played and toured with various projects in India among which are the bands “Run Pussy Run”, “Riddim Funktion” and Behrooz Mihankhah Ensemble. Behrooz is currently studying Music Arts at the NSCC with piano as his major instrument and is involved in a number of upcoming project in Halifax such as ‘Lazeez’, ‘Superfluid’ and ‘Mellodora’. Behrooz Also plays in the NSCC Jazz as well as the World Music Ensemble (Klezmer and Middle Eastern). He started teaching after he finished his course in Music performance in the year 2013.

Ting -Yi Wang is originally from Taipei, Taiwan. She has a classical music background and graduated from Alethia University in 2007 with an Applied Music diploma. She subsequently traveled around and settled down in Halifax in 2016. She is currently enrolled in the NSCC Music Arts program, majoring in saxophone.

Charles Urich was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia to a musical family. He has been playing drums in bands for over eighteen years. He previously studied at Humber College, and is currently studying Music Arts at the NSCC, as well as teaching privately. He has been a featured performer at the Cape Breton International Drum festival and the Halifax Jazz Festival. He also plays with Ray Reaves and the Antagonists as a keyboardist, and with the Brett Waye band as a percussionist.

Laura Gallant was born and raised in Nova Scotia to a musical family. With three older brothers introducing her to many different instruments and genres of music, she ventured from her piano lessons to teach herself how to play guitar and sing. She involved herself in musicals, school bands, and open mics, playing covers of music that inspired her. She has explored classes in electronic production, theatre, and improvisation to help improve her composition and production skills. She is currently majoring in vocals in the NSCC Music Arts program, taking on musical projects that continue to inspire her.

Pat Healy is a guitarist from Halifax who’s been a frequent in the music scene of Halifax. He has played with many different projects throughout the city, and is currently working at Long and Mcquade, offering his knowledge and expertise in the biggest music store in the city.

Ryan White is a Dalhousie music graduate who also plays in bands such as Talea, and The Seventh Mystic.
