Jazzeast’s mandate runs from the promotion and presentation of the annual TD Halifax Jazz festival, to soft-seat concerts, club shows and educational workshops (such as the renowned Creative Music Workshop).  We develop opportunities for amateur musicians, established local artists and the local "jazz aristocracy".  We bring renowned performers from many parts of the world to a city that doesn't always find itself naturally on the maps for touring artists. In brief, we think jazz is important to the culture which we'd like to have, and we want to make sure that kind of culture is strong in Halifax, where we love to live.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the main duties of the Festival Producer are:

•       Artist Relations:

o   Work with other contract staff and volunteer coordinators, to execute all duties pertaining to the contracting of artists, including technical advancing, managing: hospitality, riders, ground transport and accommodations.

•       Production:                               

o   Manage the Front of House team for all venues; 

o   Work with the Artistic Director(s) to manage all venue contracts and lead all production and artistic teams to produce concerts and events as programmed; 

o   Be theliaison for the technical director and all other staff and volunteer crews; 

o   Oversee details of pageantry & décor for all festival venues;

•       Marketing, Promotion and Outreach                                   

o   Contribute to the development of marketing plans for Festival and outreach initiatives;

o   Contribute to marketing and community outreach initiatives including but not limited to outreach activities, lead up events, and volunteer recruitment activities; 

•       Funding & Partnerships                         

o   Work with ED to prepare funding applications

o   Assist with project reporting and evaluation

o   Provide administrative assistance and support to the ED for all sponsorship including contracting, benefit tracking, post-event thank you communications and other fulfillments.

•       Provide administrative support to ED  

Job Requirements:

•       Studies at the post-secondary level in an area related to JazzEast's work (e.g. music production, event management, leisure studies, public administration, etc.)          
•       5 years' experience in Event Management and Music Production                

General Competencies:

•       interest and/or experience with other related musical genres (e.g. blues, roots, world, urban, etc.)
•       relevant experience in arts or event management, production, or other related fields, particularly in the not-for-profit arts sector; and an understanding of the local, regional and national arts communities
•       proven computer, internet andtechnical skills (e.g. MS Office, graphic/web design/database applications, etc.)
•       electronic filing and physical record-keeping skills

Relevant Skills:

•       the ability to manage the competing demands and expectations of multiple stakeholders
•       excellent written and verbal communication skills ((fluency in a second language considered an asset) a flexible attitude blended with the ability to remain calm and solve problems quickly under pressure
•       the ability to work collaboratively with other staff and/or volunteers on a variety of projects
•       experience with developing and managing budgets of various sizes
•       meticulous attention to detail with respect to the planning, scheduling and logistical execution of       events and productions
•       self-motivated, with an organized and efficient work ethic (i.e. the ability to manage one's own time             effectively and without extensive supervision)


About Halifax Jazz Festival:

The TD Halifax Jazz Festival, formerly known as the Atlantic Jazz Festival, is the oldest jazz festival and largest summer festival in Atlantic Canada. Designated a Hallmark Event by the Halifax Regional Municipality, the festival attracts up to 55,000 visitors, involves 450 volunteers and employs over 350 local musicians.
